Exhibitions for Claudia Marseille are always among the most successful in the gallery and this one promises to be another deeply rewarding experience. Claudia Marseille is an intelligent and highly intuitive painter. The paintings evolve over time as she patiently applies and removes as many as 20 layers of pigment until she creates for the work a history that is both interesting and complex. For me, she states, painting is an act of alchemy, an act of metamophosis. I continually recommit to the present moment and inquire into what the painting tells me it requires next.

You have to come in and spend time with these paintings. The surfaces are richly satisfying and they create a presence on your wall that is commanding. Marseille is a patient painter who has a deep integrity and respect for the process. She does not rush her paintings but resolves them, taking whatever time it takes. You will enjoy the evolution of the new work, moving into more variation in the color palette and varying the way that she breaks up the space.

Her encaustic works are simply unparalleled. She finds the process more personal than oil painting. She is able to incorporate things collected from her travels that have meaning for her. The series of encaustics in this exhbition are influenced by her trip last spring to Provence and includes many artifacts from that trip.

You can depend on the work of Claudia Marseille. Each painting is carefully resolved and has experienced her full commitment. Every work in the show deserves your full attention and opens you up to new views of the creative process.
